The founder of Alpha Rhythm Roots, Alpha-Oumar Barry, is from Guinea, West Africa. He moved to Toronto in 1997 and began the Toronto based company shortly after. At Alpha Rhythm Roots, our dream is to bring the music and dance of our country Guinea to the world. Guinea, which boasts some of the best djembes (traditional drums) in the world, has a wonderful tradition of music and dance. It is a tradition that has made us famous in West Africa, which is a region known throughout the world for its music and dances. The root of this music is the rhythm of the drums. Hear for yourself the unique sound that first echoed through Africa and now the world.

We began Alpha Rhythm Roots to meet the need for authentic West African instruments that has been growing in North America. It is a need that has arisen from the growing interest and appreciation that North Americans have shown in music and art of other cultures.
