Group Bassan is a dynamic dance troupe from Cote d’Ivoire whose energetic performances have won them wide acclaim. The group’s specialty has been dinner theatre performances that attempt to recreate music, dance and celebration as it might have been in an African village.

In June 1997 the group was stunned by the loss, in a car accident in Quebec, of one of their key members, Yolande Sery. By last December the groups remaining members Djolei Gogua, Gneon Douho and Becke Ako began performing again with an emotional series at the Factory Theatre. Group Bassan had been invited to perform at the AfroFest ‘97 before tragedy intervened. At the time of the 97 Queen’s Park concert the passing of Yolande was very much on everybody’s mind. Just one year later their performance at AfroFest represented a triumph of the human spirit .

The group performed at AfroFest in1995 and 1998.
