Muna
Mingole
Born in Paris, Muna Mingole
has been quoted by FRANCOFOLIES of Montreal as being “Montreal’s
new revelation of world beat rhythms just about to realize the most
spectacular and fastest ascension of the Afro-Quebec scene.”
She migrated to Canada at the age of two. As a child, you could already
detect her passion for dancing and singing.
It’s only in 1985 that she discovers Cameroon, her parents native
land, where she will live for height years. Living with the people,
she quickly gets tinted with the cameroonian culture by their songs,
fairy-tales and traditional dances which becomes a part of every day's
life.
In 1990, she joins the Orchestra of the « Lycée Technique
of Douala » where she obtains her College degree in Administration.
Her first performance being incredibly successful, makes her the head
singer of the band. From now on, she will represent her College in the
different inter-city signing competitions. Muna Mingole wins many tittles
such as « Best female interpreter of Douala » during 2 consecutive
years.
She starts singing in 1992 with famous cameroonian singers such as Henry
Njoh. As it becomes more and more obvious that she will climb the musical
walls of Cameroon, she moves back to Canada for family reasons.
In 1997, she associates with friends and together they build SUNROOTS,
a tropical music band in which she sings African, West-Indies and Cuban
rhythms.
Since october 1999, Muna the author-compositor-interpreter performs
as a solo artist. Her musicians are now among the best of Montreal’s.
Muna Mingole is known as the African bombshell. She captivates whoever
hears her sweet warm and sensual voice. Muna inspires herself from every
day's living and it’s week-work and makes her audience discover
her beautiful culture by her colorful traditional clothing as well as
her african world beat rhythms.
